Black Addiction Counselor Education Program (BACE Program)
The Black Addiction Counselor Education (BACE) Program, established in 2017 and funded by BSAS, is part of New North Citizens’ Council IDEA initiative to increase diversity and equity in the addiction and behavioral health workforce. Designed by and for Black individuals, BACE offers a culturally responsive curriculum rooted in a social justice framework that addresses the unique needs and health disparities within BIPOC communities. Led by licensed, Master’s-level professionals who reflect the population served, the program provides mentorship, career planning, and internship or job placement support. The BACE Program is committed to advancing health equity by prioritizing access, diversity, and inclusion across the addiction and behavioral health field. Now serving both Metro Boston and Western Massachusetts, BACE offers 300 hours of training to meet licensure and certification requirements for Substance Use Disorder (SUD) professionals in Massachusetts.
